Wingstone Casa's Colored Finch: A Chair Inspired by Nature

Artistic Furniture Design Merges Nature's Beauty with Functional Comfort

The Colored Finch Chair is the brainchild of Professor Chang KeFei and Wing Stones, a design project finalized in May 2020. The inspiration for the design came from observing finches in their natural habitat. The bird's proud stance and splendid wings, which cover its round body, are artistically translated into the design of the chair, infusing a touch of nature's spiritual atmosphere into any space.

What sets the Colored Finch Chair apart is its unique design process. The design team went through 16 prototypes, modifying the model each time to perfect its form and function. They used a medical dummy to simulate different usage scenarios, determining the ideal size and shape of the chair. The final product was then rendered to choose the best materials and confirm the scale.

The chair's specifications are Width 490mm x Depth 550mm x Height 810mm. It was designed to be both stylish and comfortable, with a straight backrest upfront and a curved side. The backrest and seat are made of handmade multi-layer woods, while the chair legs are made of metal tubes uniformly laminated by handmade fabrics. The minimal use of non-renewable materials for the chair legs reflects the team's commitment to environmental protection.

The production of the Colored Finch Chair was not without its challenges. The team had to change suppliers multiple times before finding the ideal manufacturer who could flawlessly execute the design. The production process required exceptional craftsmanship and expertise, and the brand owner and designer had to endure various pressures and repeatedly confirm details with the manufacturer.

The Colored Finch Chair's design excellence has been recognized with a Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
